Weather conditions

Weather conditions
It is mainly the Office of Public Works (Landsverk), which measures weather conditions in the Faroes. Satellite images of cloud conditions are available online from institutions abroad. Several foreign meteorological offices also prepare weather forecasts for our area and many publish them online free of charge. You can access some of the weather measurements and forecasts by clicking here.

Wave conditions

Wave conditions on the Faroe Shelf have been measured for more than a quarter of a century. Over the past years, several foreign institutions have started drawing up wave maps, which include the Faroe Shelf. Furthermore, the University of the Faroe Islands has, in recent years, worked on developing a high-resolution wave forecast model for the inner areas of the Faroe Shelf. You can access wave measurements and forecasts by clicking here.

Tidal stream conditions

A plotting system with ocean current maps and fishing grounds, which runs on personal computers, commonly known as the HÚK system, is available on the website www.mid.fo.

Ocean current graphs based on current measurements carried out by the Faroe Marine Research Institute in the Munkagrunnur area in 1981, are available for the following years (click on the year): 2012, 2013, 2014201520162017201820192020.
Statistical information about tidal stream and wave height, based on computer simulations, are available on this website: www.streymkort.fo.
