The Faroese prime minister of 2050? She is building sandcastles with her friends at a day-care centre somewhere in the Faroes.

Future bankers, designers, captains, nurses, managing directors and fishermen are learning how to calculate and write in our schools today.

Right now there is a social educator helping our next Ingálvur av Reyni to draw and a teacher is leading the new William Heinesen through the hidden passages and grand avenues of literature.

The most important jobs in the world? This is probably no overstatement when we consider the teaching and social education professions. The truth is that for a full 14 years most Faroese children spend about 30 to 40 hours in day care, school and after-school care. Along with parents, it is precisely social educators and teachers who are shaping the individuals who will define our future society.

The central mission of the Department is to provide and facilitate the academic learning and practical training of those who will be taking up these important jobs.
