2016 entry and application deadlines

  • The application deadline for Quota 2 applications is April 15, 2016 at midnight
  • The application deadline for Quota 1 applications is July 1, 2016 at midnight


Applicants will be notified of admission (both Quota 1 and Quota 2) by Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the latest. The University must receive confirmation from successful applicants that they accept the place offered by Friday August 5, 2016 .

Start dates for students joining the University in 2016 will be after Monday August 15, 2016.

Entry requirements

Quota 1:
The general entry requirement for admission to bachelor degree programmes at the University of the Faroe Islands is the upper secondary school leaving examination or equivalent academic qualification. In addition, specific entry requirements apply on the following programmes:

  • Faroese: upper secondary school leaving examination with a minimum exam mark of 8 in Faroese.

  • Biology: upper secondary school leaving examination including the following subjects:

    • B-level physics
    • B-level mathematics
    • B-level chemistry

The required average mark in the mentioned disciplines is at least 6 on the marking scale from 00 to 13. The average mark is calculated using written and oral examination results or final annual marks. Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted, but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Software-engineering: upper secondary school leaving examination including the following subject:

    • B-level mathematics


The required average mark in the mentioned discipline is at least 6 on the marking scale from 00 to 13. The average mark is calculated using written and oral examination results or final annual marks. Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted, but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

 

  • Energy Engineering: upper secondary school leaving examination including the following subjects:

    • A-level mathematics - with at least 8 on the marking scale from 00 to 13
    • B-level physics
    • C-level chemistry

Or you have passed the engineer training with an average of 9.0 or higher on the marking scale from 00 to 13. Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted, but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Quota 2:
If the average mark of your upper secondary school leaving examination is not high enough, or you hold an equivalent or more advanced qualification, you should apply through Quota 2. Under the Quota 2 scheme qualifications other than the upper secondary school leaving examination will also be considered, please refer to point 2 in the instructions. Quota 2 applicants should also fill in pages 2 and 3, points 5 to 11.

Applicants who do not have a qualification in Faroese at upper secondary school level should apply through Quota 2. These applicants will be required to take a language test followed by an interview. Applicants will receive more detailed information about these tests.

Quota 2 applicants with an upper secondary school leaving examination, which qualifies them for application through Quota 1 will be transferred to the Quota 1 entry assessment for 2016 (the application deadline is July 1, 2016).

Up to 30% of students will be admitted through the Quota 2 scheme.
